The South Shore Syncopators entertained a large crowd of 1920s jazz enthusiasts at the 2012 Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Concert in Sunnyside, Queens, just steps away from the apartment building where the legendary cornetist passed away in 1931. Here is the band playing Fletcher Henderson's great 1928 version of the Fats Waller Composition, "Hop Off."

Since their formation in 2007 The South Shore Syncopators Dance Orchestra, based on Long Island, New York, have delighted audiences with its unique programming and repertoire specializing in the pre-swing decade of 1925-1935. Projecting the original and exhilarating spirit of the music, they deliver each song, from high-flying killer-dillers and bitter sweet love ballads to whimsical novelties, in a fresh and dynamic style all their own.

From the era of the Harlem cabaret, the Ziegfeld Follies and Vaudeville to the Art Deco world of Busby Berkeley film musicals, the South Shore Syncopators draw from the music cornucopia of the time and present music by some of the most famous composers of the era alongside obscure gems from the pens of undeservedly forgotten composers.

The South Shore Syncopators play only from original scores printed in the 1920s and 30s, giving them a rarely-encountered authenticity. What they cannot find in printed music they painstakingly transcribe from 78rpm recordings by the original artists. From no other local Long Island orchestra will you hear Fletcher Henderson's arrangement of “I'll See You in My Dreams” complete with Louis Armstrong's historic trumpet solo, or Paul Whiteman's arrangement of “From Monday On” with the very same vocal trio which featured the young Bing Crosby back in 1928. If you want to hear what the 1920s and 30s truly sounded like, then the South Shore Syncopators Dance Orchestra is the only logical choice. They do not imitate the music of the time, they recreate it, bringing it vividly to life for a whole new generation of music lovers.
